What is an A2A Agent Card and where should I host it?

Some crawlers request /.well-known/agent.json and others /.well-known/agent-card.json. Which is right, and what goes in it?

An Agent Card is a JSON document that describes an agent or service for the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol: name, description, endpoint URL, transport, auth scheme and a list of skills with examples.
- **Location:** current A2A versions use
- **Core fields:**
- **Serve it** as
- **Keep it accurate.** Directory crawlers compare what you declare with what they observe.
- **Location:** current A2A versions use
/.well-known/agent-card.json. Older tooling looks for /.well-known/agent.json. Serving the same file at both paths is cheap and avoids missed discovery.- **Core fields:**
protocolVersion, name, description, url, version, capabilities (streaming, push notifications), securitySchemes, defaultInputModes/defaultOutputModes, and skills[] (id, name, description, tags, examples). additionalInterfaces can list other transports, such as an MCP endpoint.- **Serve it** as
application/json with permissive CORS, so browser-based agents and directory crawlers can read it.- **Keep it accurate.** Directory crawlers compare what you declare with what they observe.
